Family Tiger Update Week of May 29-June 2nd

Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God: everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.”  – 1 John 4:7

Good morning Tigers,

Welcome to a new week and a new month!  With the start of the month of June this week, our staff is busy planning several special activities and events that will no doubt help to celebrate this year.  Please pay close attention to our weekly updates and calendar.  Our classrooms are also quite busy with learning and other activities so please continue to check your child’s Google Classroom/D2L site for important updates and announcements!  There is much to do as we close out the year and we want to make sure everyone is well-informed.   This week, we wish our Cross Country team good luck as they run their races at Shades Mill.  Our Junior students will continue their practices for 3 Pitch this week and our Intermediate students will continue with their ultimate frisbee tryouts.   This week is forecasted to be quite sunny and warm.  Just a reminder to please consider putting sunscreen on your child(ren) in the morning, pack a hat, and bring a reusable water bottle.  Unfortunately, our yard does not offer a lot of shade and students will be engaged in play for recess for 15- 40 minutes.

Wishing everyone a wonderful week!

June is Pride Month!

The month of June is designated as PRIDE month in Waterloo region and across Ontario and on Thursday, June 1st, we will join other schools across our district in raising the Pride (Rainbow) flag outside of our school building.  This month, and every month, WCDSB is committed to nurturing safe and inclusive learning environments where every student and every member of our community is welcomed, valued, and respected.  We are called to see each other through God’s eyes – with sensitivity, compassion, and respect, and we see God in one another –wonderfully made, just as we are. The Rainbow flag will fly for the month of June as a visible symbol of our commitment to nurturing safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning environments where every student and every member of the community is valued, and respected.

We will kick off Pride Month with RAINBOW Day on Thursday, June 1st.

Students and staff are encouraged to dress in their most colourful clothes as we celebrate the rainbow – a sign of God’s promise to love us and a symbol of inclusion for all in our community!

Parent/Family Survey: Math Learning K-8

Schools offer a variety of opportunities for parents to learn more about how to support their children: for example, events related to mathematics may be held at the school (e.g., family math nights); teachers may provide newsletters or communicate with parents through apps or social media; and school or board websites may provide helpful tips about how parents can engage in their child’s mathematics learning outside of school and may even provide links where they can learn more or enjoy math activities together.

The following brief survey will assist our school district in gathering data about how parents/families feel informed about what their children are learning in math, about how parents/families feel about supporting their children’s learning in math, and about parental access to math learning resources at home.

Thank you in advance for your consideration and participation.

Tiger Family Update Week of May 8-12, 2023

We, who are many, are one body in Christ and individually we are members, one of another

Romans: 12-5

At SVdP, We Are Many, We Are ONE

What an amazing and busy week we had last week celebrating and engaging in several events to mark Catholic Education Week!  Many thanks to all of the parents and students who visited our Virtual Book Fair last week.  Thanks to all of our new and existing Tiger families who joined us for Welcome to Kindergarten night on Thursday.  It was so great to meet our future Tigers!   We also celebrated as a faith community with Father Gary Schlack in the Crowning of Mary. Finally, thanks to our folk dancers for sharing their gift of dance with us and showing us that it is certainly “better when we are dancing.”   Thank you staff, students, and parents for making Catholic Education Week so wonderful!

ASIAN HERITAGE MONTH

May is designated as Asian Heritage Month and an opportunity for us to learn more about the many achievements and contributions of Canadians of Asian heritage who, throughout our history, have done so much to make Canada the country we know and love.   Over the last two centuries, immigrants have journeyed to Canada from East Asia, Southern Asia, Western and Southeast Asia, bringing our society a rich cultural heritage representing many languages, ethnicities, and religious traditions. This month, we recognize the long and rich history of Asian Canadians and their contributions to the growth and prosperity of our country.  The theme for Asian Heritage Month 2023 is “Stories of Determination.” This “represents the strides made and the challenges overcome by Asian communities to thrive in Canada over the last two centuries and beyond. The history of the communities here in our country is filled with hardships and setbacks, but ultimately, it is a story of triumph over adversity.” – Statement from Minister Hussen.

Multi-Year Strategic Plan – Feedback from the Community

The Waterloo Catholic District School Board prides itself on being the Heart of the Community, providing Success for Each and A Place for All. With this Vision, we have developed our new WCDSB Multi-Year Strategic Plan (2022-2025) (MYSP).  This short video from Director Tyrone Dowling summarizes the process, content and goals for our new Strategic Plan.  This plan was approved by the Board of Trustees in December 2022.  At this time, we are gathering feedback to assist with our ongoing monitoring of the implementation of the current MYSP. We are inviting all staff, parents/guardians, and community members to provide feedback on our new MYSP plan (one per family/staff). Your input is valued and appreciated.

The survey will take less than 8 minutes to complete and will be available until May 23rd @ 8am.
