Monthly Archives: February 2021

Week of March 1-5, 2021

Dear Tiger Families,

It is already March, spring is almost upon us and we have many exciting things happening this month at SVdP!  We continue our Lenten season and on our Lenten promises.  Let us continue to endeavour to take some quiet time and reflect on the choices we make in our lives and commit to finding ways to make even greater improvements.  We are very blessed at SVdP to have the opportunity to work together as a Catholic community and may we continue to appreciate one another and the significant efforts of all staff, parents and students!

Reminder About COVID Screening and Changes to COVID Protocols:

Prior to coming to school, please continue to complete the COVID-19 School Screening Assessment.  If your child has symptoms that are found on the COVID-19 School Screening Assessment found here: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/, please do not send them to school.

You will have noticed in the letter we sent out from the Director earlier this week that there are some important changes to our COVID protocols.  Please know these changes are Ministry mandated.

When your child is at school and expresses that they do not feel well (one symptom) we are obligated to treat the situation as a possible COVID case. Please know this is out of an abundance of caution, in the effort to keep all staff, students, and their extended families safe.  You will need to make arrangements to pick your child up from school, along with their siblings, and begin the isolation period.

This isolation period for the symptomatic individual can end when ANY of the following happen:

  • There is a negative COVID-19 test
  • There is an alternate diagnosis from a medical professional
  • 10 days have passed since the symptom started, and it has not gotten worse, however the remainder of the household must isolate for 14 days after the last contact with the symptomatic individual

This isolation period for the asymptomatic family members can end when ANY of the following happen:

  • The negative test results are received and confirmed
  • There is an alternate diagnosis from a medical professional
  • 14 days have passed since the last contact with the symptomatic family member (if there is no test result or alternate medical diagnosis

Please know that we understand that this is a change from past practice. Also, please know that this is the mandate of the Ministry and Public Health.  A reminder that if one of your children has a COVID symptom ALL siblings from the school must stay at home as well.  Thank you for your patience and understanding.  We know that the next few months might be very challenging for your family as we follow these new protocols.  Thank you for your continued understanding and support.

Important Information Regarding Asymptomatic Testing of Students and Staff

ENHANCED COVID-19 TESTING PROTOCOLS

Targeted Asymptomatic Testing of Students and Staff

As of February 22, 2021, school boards must provide asymptomatic targeted testing in at least 5% of the elementary and secondary schools within their jurisdiction, each week. In WCDSB, this means 2 schools per week, until all schools have had the opportunity to participate in testing.

School locations are being selected in consultation with Region of Waterloo Public Health. Participation in testing is completely voluntary.

School Boards have been asked to prioritize schools in areas of high transmission, previous or continuing high case numbers, and schools where access to current testing programs may be challenging. Dates, times, and locations are still being determined.

The initial WCDSB schools identified are:

  • Resurrection CSS / St. John CES / St. Dominic CES
  • Mary’s H.S. / Blessed Sacrament CES
  • Our Lady of Grace CES / St. Bernadette CES / St. Daniel CES
  • Doyle CSS / Holy Spirit CES
  • Gregory CES / St. Vincent de Paul CES

Voluntary Asymptomatic Testing of School Staff at Pharmacies

As part of an enhanced testing strategy to support in-person learning in Ontario, Region of Waterloo Public Health has worked with the Province on the expansion of asymptomatic testing at pharmacies to include school staff. Interested school staff will need to make an appointment at participating pharmacies and provide the name of their school/work location.
